In cognitive linguistics, the idea of reffering or understanding one abstract domain in terms of another, usually in order to make one more understandable, or to specify its meaning, is called conceptual metaphor. (Analogies and metaphors are not identical linguistic phenomena, but they share a similarity in their use. I consider the above amusing video to highlight the role that metaphors carry (or should carry) in the language we use.)
